I know only one colonising people who speak their own language worse that the colonised - the English.

When you meet someone in Dublin who, despite it being their mother-tongue, speaks English badly and almost incomprehensibly, there's a 90% chance it's an English tourist.

The English are one of the most civilised peoples, colonialists and westerners, to have a sense of humour. But, if English humour is so advanced and famous, this is due to two factors: little Spanish blood, which still runs in their veins, and, above all, the good fortune never to have succeeded in stifling the laughter from their neighbours - the Irish.
